Proud to have achieved this important milestone evidencing its success, the Mozilla Foundation now boasts over 106 million downloads for the fourth version of its Firefox browser, just four weeks after its launch.
Firefox’s popularity is undeniable since its delivery, which occurred on March 22. Less than 24 hours after its launch, this version of the browser was installed not less than seven million times worldwide.
According to data provided by the official count of the Mozilla Foundation , Firefox 4 is more popular in Europe (40.4 million downloads) and North America (31.1 million), while Asia does is responsible for only 21.2 million downloads. Oceania is the continent where the browser has been downloaded the least (1.8 million times) in the world, but this is probably due to its smaller population base.
In North America, Mozilla must thank Canada for its 2.9 million installations, but the U.S. is probably more convincing with their 25.5 million downloads. Third on the podium of Mexico’s Internet browser were recovered as 1.7 million times.
In Europe, Germany (7.7 million), France (3.8 million) and Russia (3.4 million) are the countries where Firefox 4 is the most popular to date.
Mozilla precipitated the launch of the next versions of Firefox
The foundation announced in the same breath that it will accelerate the publication of the next versions of its browser. In fact, Firefox 5 should be launched on 21 June and Firefox 6, 13 weeks later. With this new schedule, fewer improvements and new features will therefore be offered to the arrival of each new major release, although they become more regular.
