The meeting and the conflict between real and virtual are now becoming everyday topics that fascinate technical and theoretical: the virtual dimension of our lives, now very much present, influence our real life, sometimes this can be overwhelming, so much to change it some cases, as well as of course the reverse may happen. But modern philosophers have not yet managed to establish a real border between the virtual and the real world, so that they continue to intersect at several points sociologically.
It is a striking example of the invention of the young designer Steve Murray, called The Facebook Box. The device in question is intended to make it more concrete and tangible experience of social networking, and a call for a return to the good old past, where the letter box, pen and paper were the only vehicle for our communications, including distance.
In The Facebook Box practice, with the same colors of the famous social networking is a real box-shaped envelope with a lot of logo, ready to light any new notification. Once you open the box, the notification will be printed on some sort of proof and may be stored in a compartment in which the interior is divided according to the criteria chosen by the user.
It is really very pretty useless in terms of psycho-sociological, just because we strive to establish a new contamination between real and virtual. Too bad that these days are increasingly seeking to eliminate printing and paper, in favor of a more ecological and economic digitalization. But The Facebook Box has other purposes …
