VMware is a virtualization program. With this program we will be able to install several operating systems of virtual form in our computers. With which we can test or test operating systems different from ours without modifying anything in our system.
Many times we want to pass, for example, to Linux but we dare not since we do not know if we will be able to run that operating system.
With VMware-workstation this problem is solved since we can test as many operating systems as we want. This program is shareware but we have 30 days to try it without limitations and just ask us to register to download it.
As always we recommend downloading from your web. VMware-workstation is compatible with all versions of Windows and can be installed on 64-bit systems, there is also a version for Linux.
In softeview, you have manuals of other programs to create virtual machines that are VirtualBox and Virtual PC.
INSTALLATION
IN THIS PART OF THE TUTORIAL DOES NOT PUT CAPTURES, AS THE INSTALLATION IS LIKE ALL PROGRAMS, SIMPLY FOLLOW THE ASSISTANT. WITH THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THAT WE WILL HAVE THE SERIAL NUMBER THAT WE GIVE US WHEN REGISTERING YOUR WEB PAGE.
USE OF THE PROGRAM
When opening the program we will see the screen where we will have to accept the license agreement as shown in the following image.
Once we accept the license agreement will show us the main window of the program, which will show us three main options as shown in the following image, which are:
NEW VIRTUAL MACHINE: this will be the option that we will use in this manual since it is in charge of creating our virtual machine.
NEW TEAM: With this option we add virtual machines to our private area network.
OPEN EXISTING VM OR TEAM: Opens existing virtual machines.
1- CREATING A VIRTUAL MACHINE

The first thing we will do is create a new virtual machine, for this we press the option NEW VIRTUAL MACHINE and a wizard will open. We will only have to click on next to continue.
2 VMWare virtual operating systems
In this step asks us if we want to create our machine with a pre-set options (Typical) or if we are the ones who configure those options (Custom). Let’s choose the (typical) option for VMware to set the configuration and click on next to continue.
The next step is to indicate from which medium we are going to install the operating system.
3 VMWare virtual operating systems
The following window asks us which is the operating system that we will load in our virtual machine, I have chosen Ubuntu OS, once chosen click on next to continue.
4 VMWare virtual operating systems
Now we will choose the name and location where the virtual machine will be stored.
5 VMWare virtual operating systems
Clicking on the tab that says Browse will open a window where we will navigate the hard disk to find the folder where we will save our virtual machine once chosen click on next to continue.
Now we will have to choose the capacity of our virtual machine. It shows us 2 options which are:
- Allocate all disk space now – allocate all disk space now
- Split disk into 2 GB files – disk divided into 2 GB
6 VMWare virtual operating systems

I, I left the options unmarked, once done this click on finalize.
If everything went well it will show us a window indicating that the virtual machine has been created.
INSTALL A VIRTUAL SYSTEM
This is the main window of VMware Workstation
Now we are going to install the operating system, we will only have to put the CD with the operating system in the optical drive and click on “start this virtual machine”, now install Ubuntu in virtual form. As we can see, on the left side we have the operating systems already installed.
Once the installation is complete, we will have an operating system installed on our computer. I hope this tutorial is helpful. For any questions, visit our Software Forum.
