Dear Trekkies, a piece of science fiction becomes reality today.
If you are a fan of Star Trek and you are the owner of an iPad, you should normally be very excited to learn that a new application for iPad was launched this week: Star Trek PADD (for personal Access Display device).
This application provides access to an interactive database containing information and photos on the extraterrestrial species, vessels, sites, technologies, episodes of the series and movies of the universe created by Gene Roddenberry. Yes, you have well read: a Star Trek encyclopedia just at your fingertips. The developer, CBS Interactive, says more content will be added over time.
The most beautiful is that this application is developed on the model of the LCARS computer interface (for Library Computer Access/Retrieval System) which is used by the fleet of the United federation of Planets in the 24th century, introduced for the first time in the next generation. CBS has also recently removed many unofficial applications attempting to recreate the LCARS interface on iPad
Star Trek padd is available for $ 4.99 on the Apple App Store.
You will recognize the sound effects from the series and, strange story, the voice of Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, wife deceased gene (Roddenberry). The latter embodied the nurse Christine Chapel in the original series.
