Generally, it’s recommended that one or two visits to the pediatrician during the first month, more if there is a problem that required follow-up as, among others:
- Difficulties with breastfeeding
- Excessive weight loss during the first week
- Prolonged jaundice
- Congenital malformations
It is worth recalling the metabolic testing between 7 and 15 days of life (PKU). The purpose of these periodic reviews is to check and ensure that infants develop normally and precociously detect any problem that can be treated.
Before these scheduled visits, it is advisable to make a short list of those questions that you wish to consult.
In some health centres, several of the regular visits are conducted by a nurse specially trained in child health, especially when they coincide with the dates of the vaccines.
In case of private medical care, must conclude the frequency of visits of health with the pediatrician. They may have a different rate.
